The Tivoli GreenCity project in Brussels exemplifies sustainable urban development, with a strong emphasis on waste separation.
With 397 residences, two daycare centers, 770 m² of commercial space, and 10,000 m² of public space, the Tivoli GreenCity project is a large, mixed-use neighborhood where living and working coexist. Ambitious environmental goals have been set, with waste sorting and reduction playing a crucial role.
Waste sorting solution
To meet these environmental objectives, Engels was commissioned to provide a waste solution for all households in the neighborhood. The Regional Cleanliness Agency, Net Brussels, has implemented four separate waste streams—paper, PMD (plastics, metals, and drink cartons), food waste, and residual waste—using color coding for each type. Engels' Apyra Centro
meet all technical requirements and specifications set by Net Brussels. These underground containers, with a capacity of 3,000 to 5,000 liters per fraction, provide ample storage for all neighborhood residents, requiring only a small amount of public space. To ensure only authorized users can access the containers, each is equipped with electronic access control. The containers are labeled with pictograms and text applied by screen printing, ensuring durability. The entire unit is also treated with an anti-graffiti coating. The visuals, text, and colors specified by Net Brussels will be standard across the Brussels-Capital Region, ensuring that the Apyra Centro provides a colorful, clean addition to the Brussels streetscape for years to come.
